Sale:
We brought three ram lambs and two ewe lambs to the NSIP
Center of the Nation Sale in Iowa in July of 2011. We were also able to deliver a two year old ram, Alberda 926, to a buyer in Iowa on the way.
We intend to consign a few animals at next years NSIP sale in Iowa. Contact us if you are intersted in any of our genetics as transportation could be coordinated with our Iowa trip.
Ram and Ewe lambs available:
We lambed in March and May 2011, and have a new crop of lambs available, out of K Bar K 7132, Alberda 926 (A K Bar K 7132 son), Alberda 019 and Alberda 032 (Both Virginia Tech VTG045 sons).
New ram in 2011:
In August we purchased a two year old ram from Dave Meeuwse who is from Hopkinsberg Michigan. Meeuwse 914 is out of the K Bar K ram which Dave purchased in 2008 when we traveled to K Bar K farms in Pennsylvania to pick up our new yearling ram. The Meeuwse family has been selecting production type Dorsets for many years and was the source of our foundation Dorsets back in 2002.
Whole flock OPP testing:
In April 2011 we had blood drawn from all of our adult sheep to determine the OPP status of our flock. All of the tests came back negative! This is an important step in helping us supply the sheep industry with performance tested, OPP free, healthy Production Dorset sheep.
NSIP is utilizing lambplan!:
This will help provide faster turn around for our production EBV\'s as well as offer the ability to submit and receive data two times a month. This is welcomed as it will allow us to have up to date information to aid us in our selection process
New ram in 2009:
In May 2009 we purchased a mature proven ram out of the Virginia Tech flock from Michigan State University. He will give us direct genetic linkages to three other NSIP flocks. These flocks include Virginia Tech (his flock of origin), Michigan State University, who bought him as a lamb and used him for three years, and also Mint Gold Ranch, who bought a son from him out of MSU in 2008. In the 2009 Dorset sire summary VT G045 was ranked first in weaning weight, first in post-weaning weight, above average for milk + growth and first in percent lamb crop. He is very thick and has great breed character.
New ram in 2008:
In June 2008 we traveled to K Bar K farms in Pennsylvania to pick up our new yearling ram. Ken and Kathy Soder have been selecting production type Dorsets using Lambplan for many years. #7132 is sired by a Carson ram, has strong breed character, excellent EBVs, and gives us some NSIP linkages to Virginia Techs Dorset flock.
